Episode 1 - "The Prez Paul Podcast"

Dear Nazareth Community,
I am grateful to so many of you who have reached out in support of opening lines of communication within our community and the ways in which we keep in touch. These days, there are so many channels of communication. As such, we are working to engage with our community with various touchpoints.
With that in mind, I am pleased to share with you that I am starting the Prez Paul Podcast” for us to engage and hear honest and compelling dialogue about Nazareth College, the people at the heart of who we are, and the important topics of our time.
Nazareth College is full of exceptionally talented, fascinating people and inspiring perspectives and possibilities.
Through this podcast, I invite you to join in, open your mind to new ideas, and enjoy the power, beauty, and momentum of the Nazareth College learning community, as we have meaningful conversations that speak to Nazareth’s place in the world.
I welcome you to the inaugural podcast focusing on strategies for psychological well-being during challenging times. I had the pleasure to tap into the expertise of my guests, Brigid Noonan, dean in the School of Health and Human Services, and Kathryn Devinney, assistant director of counseling in Health and Counseling Services, who share a wealth of knowledge on topics such as:
  • Neuroscience and gratitude and how we activate “happy chemicals” in the brain, at 13:07 in the podcast
  • Intentional self care and the innovative Nazareth Virtual Self Care Package that students are using, at 16:46 in the podcast
  • Ways in which we can manage when gratitude is inaccessible, at 20:00
  • And thoughts from our students about things that make them feel gratitude during these times, at 18:33
I hope you enjoy the first episode. In our second episode you will hear from our community members taking part in the College’s various racial equity learning opportunities (e.g., Community and Belonging’s Five-Day Racial Equity Challenge, October Assembly Day, United Way’s 21-day Racial Equity Challenge, shared reading and other critical conversations, etc.) on how together we can engage in ongoing learning that helps us actively interrupt and redress racism, bias, and social inequity.

I’d love to hear from you directly. If you have suggestions for future podcast episodes, please feel free to call  “The Prez Paul” voicemail at 585-389-4500 to share your ideas, or use the Ask a Question form.
